Eddie D and the Guarantee is the solo music of Ed Di Lello. Ed is a singer, writer, guitarist and performer born and raised in New York City.  First guitar at 11, first original song at 12, first drum kit at 13, first band at 14.  Long before high school graduation Ed and friends were busking in Washington Square Park.  He cut his teeth as a musician in the New York downtown scene – composing, singing and playing in venues like Cafe LaMaMa, the Public Theater and CBGB's.  Blending elements of folk, old rock and roll, jazz, blues and Gregorian chant, Ed brings to life stories that are compelling, local, universal, funny and sometimes heartbreaking.  Shaped by his years working in theater, opera and film, Ed's lyrics will always surprise you, lift you up, tickle your brain and (sometimes) make you cry.

Q: What is the Guarantee? A: On Ed's studio recordings, every note on every song is made by Eddie D - guaranteed.  As did Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Steve Winwood, Todd Rundgren and Dave Grohl, Ed plays all the instruments and sings all the vocals on his studio records.  No digital sequencing is used (that is, the parts are played in real time).  Human voice.  Human hands.  For human ears.

Ed is frequently asked - “What genre is your music?”  Ed's answer:  “A genre is like a ghetto, other people want to put you in there and force you to stay there. Genres are meant to be combined, stretched, bent and melded. If a song needs a bossa nova beat, or a modulation from a Bach chorale, you have to go there.”

Regarding the sources of his words, images and stories, Ed has said:  “Lyrics have to come from both sides of the brain. Put another way, the feelings come from the heart (you can’t lie) but a lot of mental work – selection – goes into the choice of how to say what you need to say.”

Willie Nelson has said "Three chords and the truth - that's what a country song is."  Responding to Mr. Nelson, Ed has said:  "Three chords, the truth, some irony, alliteration, perfectly drawn images, a couple of classic metaphors, a soaring melody - and another five or six chords - that’s what an Eddie D song is”

Ed plays a Taylor 415 steel string acoustic guitar mixing fingerpicking, flatpicking and strumming for a wide variety of sound.  He has also been know to combine his drummer's skills with a looper to add percussion textures in his live shows.

Reviews:

Writing on Eddie D and the Guarantee's reworking of the Beatles I'M HAPPY JUST TO DANCE WITH YOU, the blogger Dupe And Revise said:  “Eddie D brings out the sweetness and the melancholy  that was lying below the surface of this pop-rocker from the Beatles film ”A Hard Day's Night."  It's not only a Beatles cover, but you could call it a George Harrison cover too.  It is sweet, plaintive and wistful, where the original was boisterous, brash and bouncy.  Eddie D's version makes us think that it is not romantic love that we all need, but rather just a simple chance to get up and dance."  - Dupe And Revise, https://dupeandrevise.ca/2021/04/09/whats-an-original-cover-version/
